Wedding Details:

• Venue: Prestwold Hall, Loughborough

Morning Preparation (5am-12:50pm)

6:00am

Hair and makeup begins

Ami's hair and makeup team arrived at Prestwold Hall. I arrived at 11:00am to capture the relaxed getting ready moments with her mum, dad and bridesmaids.

11:00am

Emma arrives for getting ready photos

After capturing details of the dining room and the ceremony room, and greeting the team I head up to Ami.

I focused on detail shots (dress, shoes, rings, bouquet) and candid moments of the bridal preparation. The light in the room upstairs was absolutely perfect, and a fab spot for capturing details without having to move belongings!

11:45am

Bridesmaids get ready

While I captured Ami's getting her final makeup touches and then head downstairs to Matt to get his prep images with his groomsmen, and opening his letter from his bride-to-be

12:00pm

Ami gets into dress & First Look with Dad

We took this moment on the stairs, so Ami's dad could look up to his little girl all ready and she walked down to him for an embrace at the bottom, Ami then also has time to read her emotional letter from her hubby-to-be

12:30pm

Interview time and Guests Arrival

Matt goes in at 12:30pm and the staff collect Ami at 12:50pm for their interviews, I head down to capture guests arriving and get set up for ceremony

Pro Tip: Starting hair and makeup at 6am gave us a relaxed morning without rushing, especially as Ami had a 1pm ceremony with 6 Bridesmaids! I always recommend allowing extra time for getting ready, especially if you want those beautiful detail shots and candid moments!

Guests start arriving

12:55pm

Bridesmaids & Bride head downstairs

With everything being in one venue, this makes timings alot easier to organise

I captured moments of Matt and his best man waiting anxiously at the end of the aisle

1:00pm

Final Bride prep

Everyone is lined up and ready to make their entrance

Pro Tip: Make sure all your guests know to arrive no later than 30 minutes before the "I do's", this gives them enough time to take their seats and no-one is lingering outside and sees the Bride!

ceremony (1pm-1:20pm)

1:00pm

Ceremony Begins

While I stayed up with the registrar and Videographer, I captured Ami and her bridesmaids walking down the aisle, while a second videographer was located at the back, he was able to capture Matt's reaction

1:15pm

Ring exchange & First Kiss

Knowing how a ceremony flows, I know when the ring exchange will happen, followed by the first kiss, so I position myself ready off to the side. The registrar has told me he will step to the right so I can get a central shot too

1:50pm

Guests greeting and Confetti throw

As Ami & Matt has exited the ceremony, their guests came out and greeted them in the lawn area, once guests had said their congratulations and had a quick hug we ushered everyone up for confetti.

The confetti throw on the lawn at Prestwold Hall in the May light was phenomenal, they used dried roses and it flowed like a dream, and they had lots of it too!

Pro Tip: 1pm is the most common time for a ceremony. Between 12&2pm is perfect, no rushing for your group images after and no rushing in the morning, win win!

Formal photographs (1:45pm-2:15pm)

2:10pm

Formal Groups

We gathered everyone off to the side and worked through the formal images one by one, swapping out family members as we went. With everyone waiting nearby, the next group was always ready to be called, which kept things moving quickly and efficiently

3:00pm

Couple Portraits

Taking a nice walk around the grounds to Ami and Matt's favorite spots, we captured a few gentle guided poses, a dip, a kiss, and moments of them walking and looking back at the camera. The videographer and I worked seamlessly together, each capturing the content we wanted while collaborating on different angles

3:30pm

Candids and Decor

Before guests went into the reception room, I took a moment to quickly capture the decor, and detail images. Whilst Ami & Matt went and had a chat with their favourite people

Pro Tip: 10-15 formal images is the max I would recommend having, think of it this way, if every group takes 2 minutes to capture and you have chosen 25 groups thats 50 minutes of groups! Trust me you do not want to be stood there for that long smiling at the camera.

speeches (3:45pm-6:30pm)

3:45pm

Entrance to Breakfast

Whilst all the guests are taking their seats, Ami & Matt had a few moments to themselves. Once everyone was settled they were announced in and Mr & Mrs Benham made their spectacular entrance

4:00pm

Food

Food was served and everyone had a blast, the 3 course meal was divine

6:00pm

Speeches

Ami & Matt had 5 speeches altogether, Ami's Dad, Matt's 2 best men, Matt, and Ami

Pro Tip: Having speeches after dinner is always the best option. It means suppliers don’t have to rush their own meals to keep everything on track, the caterers can focus fully on serving the food, and the staff can make sure glasses are topped up and ready for the toasts.

golden hour magic(6:30pm-12Am)

6:30pm

Smoke Bombs and Fun

Ami & Matt wanted to use some coloured smoke bombs with their bridal party so we got this after the speeches had finished, along with a couple more groups

7:15pm

Golden Hour Portraits

The light at this time was absolutely gorgeous, so we made the most of it with a few extra couple portraits. We used the wooded area behind the venue, grabbed some shots at the front of the building, and even included a couple of Matt’s fancy cars for a fun touch!

8:00pm

Evening Celebrations Begin

By 7:30 the evening guests had started to arrive, bringing a new buzz of excitement to the day. At 8pm, we gathered everyone around the couple for the cake cutting, before heading straight into their first dance. The perfect way to kick off the night’s celebrations

8:45pm

My coverage ends

After 9 hours of coverage, and capturing all the big moment and everything in between, I left Ami & Matt dancing the night away with their loved ones. The perfect end to a perfect day!

Pro Tip: In May, sunset falls around 9pm, so we began the couple portraits at 7pm to make the most of the golden light while still keeping perfectly in sync with the first dance. I always check sunset times when planning a timeline and work backwards from there to make sure everything flows seamlessly.

A few more moments from AMI & Matt's big day

Why This Timeline Worked Perfectly

The Key Success Factors:

Perfect Lighting: By planning around the 9pm sunset, we captured stunning golden hour portraits while still having plenty of time greeting evening guests and time for some natural candid images

Relaxed Pace: No one felt rushed! We built in buffer time throughout the day so everything flowed smoothly

Guest Experience: Guests were never waiting around. While we did couple portraits, they enjoyed drinks and canapés, staying entertained and comfortable

Natural Transitions: Each part of the day flowed naturally into the next, creating a seamless experience for everyone involved

Seasonal Considerations for May Weddings:

May is such a gorgeous time to get married. It marks the start of the summer wedding season, with sunsets early enough that you can enjoy golden hour portraits without waiting until after your first dance. The timings flow so smoothly, giving you more space in the day to soak up moments together before the light fades.

The weather is usually kind too, mild and comfortable, often sitting between 15–18°C, with the occasional perfect warm day thrown in.
